Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, has been reported to inhibit the inducible isoform of Cox-2. Meloxicam is an inhibitor selective for Cox-2 (IC50 of 4.7 μM) over Cox-1 (IC50 of 36.6 μM). Studies suggest that Meloxicam is Cox-2 preferential,therefore it will probably not display a lower  gastrointestinal toxicity than non-selective anti-inflammatory agents. This compound has been shown to also inhibit prostanoid synthesis in inflammatory cells. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal antipyretic and analgesic anti-inflammatory drug, not a hormonal drug. It has strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects, and can selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Activity, thereby blocking prostaglandin synthesis, inhibiting prostaglandin biosynthesis at the Chemicalbook site of the inflammatory department is stronger than prostaglandin biosynthesis in the gastric mucosa or kidney, and is more safe than other NSAIDs. It is mainly used to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis, painful osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and joint spondylitis.For rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, soft tissue injury and pain. Adverse reactions
Indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes, dizziness, headache, rash, and anemia can occur. Occasionally edema, elevated blood pressure, mild serum creatinine or urea nitrogen abnormality, acute renal failure, gastric ulcer, gastric bleeding, gastric perforation, leukocytes, and thrombocytopenia.
