What is chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond?
CVD stands for chemical vapor deposition, another method of making diamonds in a laboratory. The growth of such diamonds requires the proper pressure and temperature of a hydrocarbon gas mixture in a vacuum chamber.
CVD diamond growth process
·
A diamond seed crystal is placed in the diamond growth chamber.
·
A carbon-containing gas is injected into the growth chamber.
·
Heat the growth chamber to 900-1200 °C.
·
The microwave beams drop the carbon from the plasma cloud and deposit it on the seed crystals.
·
The diamonds are removed every few days, the top surface of the diamond is polished to remove non-diamond carbon from it, and then returned to the growth chamber. Each batch of diamonds may go through several start/stop cycles, and the entire growth process takes three to four weeks.
·
Once the synthetic diamond crystals are removed, the crystals can be cut to make the final product.
(During CVD synthesis, microwaves separate hydrocarbon molecules entering the reaction chamber (left). These separated portions are deposited onto a cooler diamond seed crystal and adhere to the surface of the growing diamond. Synthetic diamonds are grown in thin layers, the final thickness of which depends on the growth time. The result is a flat, plate-like crystal (center and right) covered with a layer of black graphite.)

Better Value
Lab-grown diamonds have a high value because they are more affordable than natural diamonds of the same size and quality. These lab grown diamonds are nearly 30% cheaper than mined natural diamonds.
Excellent environment
Mining diamonds from the earth is fossil fuel-intensive, harmful to the environment, and increasingly unsustainable every year.Growing diamonds consumes a fraction of the energy and does not pollute the fragile ecosystems in rivers and lakes. The growth of diamonds requires only two main components: carbon and electricity.
Beauty & Quality
Grown diamonds and natural diamonds have the same composition, physical properties, chemical properties, optical properties, but their growth environment is different.
