In a well-ventilated space, place the garden sieve upside-down (mesh up) onto a drop cloth and spray all around with the ‘Aged Copper’ paint. Allow to dry.
Lay the sieve top-down (again, mesh up) onto the sheet of corflute and trace around the edge. Remove sieve and trace another line 10mm in from the previous line. Cut out the corflute circle with sturdy scissors and lay aside for later use. Placemat
Mark two crosses inside the sieve, 20mm in from the top edge and level with the one side of the handles. Using the cordless drill and 10mm drill bit, drill each hole from the inside.
Cut a 1600mm length of sisal rope, tape each end tightly and thread the ends through each drilled hole from the outside of the sieve. Tie a knot in each end to secure the rope inside the sieve. This is the time to check if you are happy with the length of rope as it hangs the sieve, adjust the length if necessary and re-tie.
Lay the sieve mesh-side down onto a board and fill with potting mix. Pack down as firmly as you can, just covering the rope knots. Lay the corflute circle over the potting mix. It should fit firmly into the inside of the sieve. Squeeze a generous amount of construction adhesive around the inside where the corflute meets the sieve. Wearing a disposable glove, smooth out the glue with your index finger so it spreads between the sides and corflute board. Allow to dry thoroughly overnight without moving. Holding the board carefully under the sieve (so the potting mix doesn’t fall out), flip the whole thing over and remove the board.
