Glocusent LED Neck Reading Light review - Gentle light, right where you need it - The Gadgeteer

REVIEW – I love to read, but increasingly find the only time I have to read is in bed, right before going to sleep.  Our bedroom has nightstands with lamps, but as I’ve grown older (and my eyes have gotten worse!) those lamps don’t quite cut it for reading. Enter the Glocusent rechargeable LED neck reading light. It gives you a lot of flexibility to give you just the right light – three different light temperatures and three different light levels.  Perfect for reading anywhere the light is not great, in a portable and rechargeable package!

The Glocusent rechargeable LED neck reading light is a rechargeable LED reading light that goes around your neck.  Table Lamp Round Base

The Glocusent rechargeable LED reading light features three different light levels, and three different light temperatures. Light levels are controlled by individual buttons on each arm (turns out it’s VERY difficult to take photos of different light levels!).  The arms are not connected, so they need to be turned on and off individually.

That means that you can choose to use only one arm if you choose, but if you want to use both, you have to click each arm on.

Turning the light off is a bit of an ordeal; you have to click each arm through all the light levels, possibly disturbing the person in bed next to you with a very bright light. The light temperature is controlled by a button on the back of the neck band.  The light does have a memory and turns on at the same light temperature that it had when you last used it.

The arms of the Glocusent rechargeable LED neck reading light are very flexible and retain their position well, allowing you th position the broad light exactly where you need it. There is a USB-C port on the top of the neck band for charging, and the battery is said to last up to 80 hours in low light mode.  There is a single LED light that turns green when the battery is fully charged, but no way to check the charge status while using the light.

The light provided by the Glocusent LED reading light is very nice for reading, without disturbing those around you.  The light is even and uniform, without hot spots or dim areas.

The customizable light brightness and temperatures are very nice. I found the yellow temperature and the low setting to be best for me, reading in bed.  The other color temperatures seemed very harsh but could have their place. My wife has used the light for knitting and liked the cool white color so she could see the different shading in the yarn she was using.

I did have some frustrations with the Glocusent rechargeable LED neck reading light.  The neck band is rather thick and can be uncomfortable when lying on pillows.  I had to position pillows with a “gap” that the neck band would fit into.  The placement of the color temperature button is directly on the back of the neck band, and can be activated when pressed into the pillows.  Finally, the need to scroll through all the light settings to turn the light off is frustrating, especially when you have to repeat the process on each arm.  A single “on-off” button with memory for the last light settings would have been a better implementation.

Reading or doing detail work in low light conditions can be hard on your eyes and cause fatigue.  The Glocusent Rechargeable LED Neck Reading Light can help alleviate this but with a few small issues.

I tried these kind of neck lamps a few times but I did not like things resting on my neck as I felt them when I turned my neck to look at other things in the room.

I use a cheap-o LED headlamp with a piece of wax paper taped to the front to diffuse light. I can get a three pack of them for $10 at harbor freight.

I have three of these and think they are great.
