Power supply to as many as 16,413 consumers including commercial and industrial defaulters who have not paid electricity bills for three months in Pune circle has been cut off.

According to an official of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the special drive is being carried out by the power utility in addition to the regular action of disconnection of supply if consumers failed to pay their long-pending bills.
A list of households, commercial, and industrial defaulters who have not paid their electricity bills for three months in Pune Circle has been prepared and it was found that there were 87,511 consumers with arrears of more than Rs 500 who have not paid electricity bills in three months. These arrears amount Rs 42.63 crore.
In Pune city, 26,796 households, commercial and industrial consumers have not paid electricity bills for three months.
These arrears amount to Rs 11.81 crore. Supply has been disconnected for 6,536 consumers in Pune city and warnings have been issued to the remaining consumers to pay up the outstanding amount.
In the neighbouring township of Pimpri Chinchwad, 16,300 consumers have not paid amounts to the tune of Rs 10.91 crore for the last three months. Supply has been disconnected for 3,209 consumers.
In the rural areas of Pune district – Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli talukas – 44,415 domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers have not paid outstanding bills totalling Rs 19.91 crore. The electricity supply of 6,669 consumers has been disconnected.
The utility has warned defaulters of stern action if they resort to using supply from neighbours or other places through wires or cables.
