Top Chef host/HSN jewelry designer/cookbook author Padma Lakshmi is boldly entering the world of frozen foods: The Los Angeles Times reports the first dishes in Lakshmi's line of frozen foods, called "Padma's Easy Exotic," are now available for sale at area Costco locations. According to the LAT, Easy Exotic, which shares the name of Lakshmi's 2000 cookbook Easy Exotic: Low-Fat Recipes from Around the World and her line of branded housewares, will feature at least four dishes. Currently, Lakshmi's Spanish paella can be found in freezer cases, with "three other frozen flavored rice and lentil dishes" forthcoming. A listing on HSN's website reveals the line also offers tea (as in this "Multi-Flavor Variety 8-Pack of Blooming Tea"); previously, Easy Exotic dabbled in offering a line of spices.
Two days ago, Lakshmi appeared on Today to cook a pot of sausage and rice, but oddly made no mention of the Easy Exotic roll-out. Per the LAT, the full line of Easy Exotic frozen foods will be available at Costco stores nationwide "later this year."
