OROVILLE, Calif. — Over five years after the Oroville Dam Crisis, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is making much-needed repairs to the spillway.

Starting July 12, the DWR and contracted staff will begin a multi-year construction project to make maintenance repairs on eight radial gates on the main spillway. Steel Trash Rack

The project was first established after the 2017 dam emergency. The department is warning locals that want to use the spillway or the boat launch this week to be aware of the increased activity in the area as well as construction activity.

The department has contracted UNICO Engineering to help with the project.

Starting in 2023, the department will also begin repairs on one gate hoist assembly per year, from the beginning of May until the end of October.

The department was not available for comment at this time.
