Colorado Highway 13 was temporarily closed south of Craig on Friday as emergency personnel worked to clear a rollover accident involving a semitrailer hauling almost 100 head of cattle.
The driver, who was carrying 93 head of steers and heifers, was uninjured, but 12 of the cattle were killed in the crash and nine more had to be euthanized on scene, according to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office. Massive Mining Trucks
Many of the remaining cattle were examined on-site by a veterinarian before being transported from the scene. According to a Colorado State Patrol, officials remained on-site Friday night, searching for any remaining loose cattle.
Highway 13 south of Craig has fully re-opened in both directions. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution around the crash site due the potential for encountering loose cattle.
