Your fall wardrobe needs a great dress—or two. Our favorite just-dropped dresses are all perfect for right now. Plus, October’s Dress Edit is filled with the season’s trends. From knitted dresses in the season’s chicest hues (see Everlane’s woolen minidress) to blousy dresses in polka dots—a major runway trend. Plus, there are plenty of dresses perfect for the office, cocktail hour, or your precious weekends. Shop our favorite dresses for right now, below.

A ribbed knit dress is a luxurious way to stay cozy and chic come cooler temperatures. Select one like this 100% wool maxi from Faithful The Brand with extra long sleeves that flare out for added detail.

We love Proenza Schouler’s day dresses; they’re endlessly versatile and always spot on, but this dress seems to take things to the next level. Slip straps over your shoulder for just a peekaboo of a floral print; or, let the straps drape about your waist for a deconstructed look.

For fall, Tory Burch gives us a dress that is about to be your next favorite. Hone in on the asymmetrical draping details that will cling to your figure gorgeously. It’s the most elevated knitted LBD we’ve seen in a while.

There’s a slight retro vibe emitted by this floral Ulla Johnson dress with its sepia hues. What we love most, though, is the unexpected asymmetrical gathers at the waist.

Don’t be perplexed by a sleeveless turtleneck silhouette—it’s made for layering! Slip a long-sleeved shirt underneath for some color blocking or sport a cardigan on top of this 100% merino dress. Plus, grey is the color of the season.

With this dress, Sacai is doing what it does best. This knit and shirtdress pairing comes together in an easy but chic two-in-one midi dress that you’ll want to wear all season long. (A back view of the dress reveals how interesting this piece really is.)

Polka dots need not be prissy—as evidenced by this ballon-sleeved dress from Zara. Named one of fall 2023’s biggest trends by our Vogue Shopping editors, polka dots are high on our shopping lists.

Certain fabrics scream fall—corduroy is one of them. There’s something extra special about a seasonal dress. This Max Mara look, which reads like a skirt and top set, comes in a lovely pale yellow.

Altuazzara interprets cottage core with sophistication in this blousy silk dress in a meadowy print. Wear it off-the-shoulder or with a round neck—it’s a dress with versatility!

Who says sweater dresses can’t be mini? Everlane’s wool and recycled poly blend dress comes in an easy swing silhouette that will pair perfectly with tights or knee-high boots.

Somehow, a knit dress feels like a piece of architecture—courtesy of Proenza Schouler. When worn, this toffee-colored frock feels transformed with a cinched waist and a high-mock-neck detail.

Devoré-velvet (or burnout velvet) with a rose pattern and a slit with satin ruffles down the side make this Rodarte dress party-ready. It’s the perfect thing to wear on your next big night out.

Dôen’s blousy midi dress showcases how to do fall florals. In a print dubbed Moonlight Garden with pussy-bow dress is ideal for injecting a bit of flora into your wintery wardrobe.

We can’t get enough knits come fall and winter. Simple knit dresses are great, but why not select one with a bit more detail—like a polo collar, button fronts, and gorgeous balloon sleeves? And opt for navy instead of black, while you're at it.

A touch of gold takes a simple black turtleneck dress to the next level—Tory Burch’s clingy jersey dress features gleaming buttons along the sleeves and neckline. When worn, you might even want to skip the jewelry altogether.

You’ll live in this Totême dress this fall—and for many reasons. Firstly, its gray hue is the color of the season. And then, a slouchy but chic fit will work for just about any occasion, depending on how it’s styled. Did we mention how warm it is?

Floral patterns can seem a bit intimidating set but this maxi from Toteme is perfectly understated—a black-and-cream colorway and a not too fussy floral make this minimalist-friendly.

Take the concept of goddess dressing straight in the fall and winter seasons with ruched and clingy dresses that showcase draping. Tove’s take in a moody dark red hue is downright stunning.

It’s sweaterdress weather—don’t be blue summer’s over, wear the hue in a bold, saturated tone. Ganni gives us a cheerful and cozy option.

We can’t get enough of Proenza Schouler’s dresses—the chicness just doesn’t stop. This style is a prime example. A latte-colored hue, a rolled neck collar, and contrast cuffs that expand up to the elbow—what more could you want?

Fringe came back this season in a big way. But if you don’t want to commit to the look, this Chloé dress winks to the trend brilliantly. A hemline mimics the movement of fringe while remaining totally covered up—no strings attached, literally!

As temperatures drop, there’s no need to leave your smocked dresses behind. Instead, opt for one in a deeper hue like this pick from Cara Cara. The brand is known for its prints, but they do an LBD pretty well.

This Zara pick smacks of the 1970s. With a mock neck, oversized pockets, and an overall groovy vibe, this dress is beginning to be worn with a great pair of boots.

Fall may be ahead of us but it’s not yet time to retire your linen dresses. From a trans-seasonal dress in the fabric, look to Staud’s belted maxi that screams end-of-summer chic.

There’s much to appreciate in this dress. The shirtdress silhouettes, the pieced-together accordion pleats, the waist-tie detail, and the use of color. Wear this to the workplace, and you’ll get the job done in style.

For fall, Prada played around with workwear and utility. These concepts come to life in this button-front dress with epaulette-style shoulder tabs.

A great leather dress is made even better when it’s faux. Proenza Schouler’s White Label gives us a cinched midi dress (with two ruching ties) that is sure to be a hit no matter how you style it.

Consider this the Canadian Ballgown, a slightly dressier version of the double-denim shirt and jeans pairing. Cos’s mid-wash style is the dress you didn't know you needed.

Hill House Home’s line of dresses extends far beyond napping. This sleeved black floral midi dress is made for the new season.

You might already have a white dress but we can guarantee it’s not as lovely as this one. With flounced details, delicate pin tucking, and a waist-cinching tie, this Ulla Johnson dress has it all.

A cozy knitted maxi dress is a joy of the cold-weather season. One in winter white can serve like a blank canvas to accessorise any which way.
