Hyster has delivered a hydrogen fuel cell reach stacker to Spain, specifically to the Port of Valencia. It is part of the EU’s H2Ports project, which aims to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles and equipment to ports.
Hyster’s ReachStacker is equipped with a fuel cell system from Nuvera. Integrated high-pressure tanks store the hydrogen and can be refilled in ten to 15 minutes. However, Hyster does not mention the capacity of the tanks. Nor does it give any other performance data. However, Nuvera only offers two FC systems, one with 53 and one with 67 kW gross output (net: 45 and 59 kW). Which one is used in the Hyster model remains unclear. China 20ft Container Trucks
Hyster only states that the ReachStacker can lift loaded containers with comparable power to a diesel forklift. The location where the FC reach stacker is used – the MSC terminal in Valencia – is considered one of the largest container terminals in Europe. There, the prototype reach stacker complements a hydrogen-powered tractor and a mobile hydrogen supply station, tested under real-life conditions in the port of Valencia for several months until December 2024.
